The year was 1940. In a little wooden house in Rynninge, Örebro, the then 23-year-old Åke Johnson started up a metal foundry. The start-up capital was miniscule – a mere 800 Swedish kronor – but huge belief in the future prevailed, and Åke showed that he had invested correctly. When it came to drawing up the annual accounts for Å Johnsons Gjuteri & Metallfabrik AB’s first financial year, the company had grown to eight employees, and had a turnover of over SEK 50,000.
In 1941 the business moved to its current Holmen location. Johnson Metall quickly grew, expanding its business as regards both products and markets. In the early 1970s Johnson Metall comprised operations in all the Nordic countries, as well as in Mexico, and also produced aluminium (Charlottenberg) and pumps (Johnson Pump).
In 1976 Åke Johnson sold the part of his life’s work that now makes Johnson Metall to Incentive. Johnson Metall has since changed ownership a number of times, with Gränges Metallverken, Outokumpu Copper, Hexagon and Norvestor all having been owners.
Since 2020 the company has been owned by members of company management.
Compared with 1940, a lot has admittedly changed over the years, but an important pioneering attitude lives on, and Johnson Metall sees opportunities – not difficulties.
